Why have I switched to Shopify? Well, there were a few reasons I couldn’t ignore at WooCommerce. First of all - their hidden costs. It was free to download, but than it become require investments — a fee for hosting and for additional functionality. The next reason was vulnerability. And the last but not the least was the problem with support. Since WooCommerce is an open-source e-Commerce plugin, it doesn’t have a dedicated support. The only help was the community of WooCommerce Store owners and thats all. My colleagues recommended Shopify as a better alternative and they were right. There were only a few simple steps on the way to perfection.

I build WordPress sites with WooComerce regularly and have worked on an already built Shopify site. In my experience WordPress and WooCommerce is a much more flexible, extensive and customisable platform. However to get the best experience out of it you need a developer, someone with experience or be prepared to spend lots of time becoming that person with experience. It requires more configuration, maintenance, updates and you have to source your own hosting. Shopify is much easier to set up and provides a smoother customer and admin experience out of the box. But it is limited in customisation and not as flexible. The upside is that Shopify handles your hosting and updates for you as well.

If you just want to get up and running selling for a minimal investment Shopify is definitely the way to go. It's super easy to setup, you can change themes whenever you want and customize themes as well. The product setup is pretty clunky so it's not good for complex products with lots of options but if you're just selling a few simple products it's a no brainer.
