If you have a growing business that requires a lot of custom functionality, then Drupal Commerce will probably be your best option. Even if you are just starting out you need to consider using the platform that can grow with your business, not hold it back. The last thing you want to do is start with a basic commerce platform and then realize down the road it doesn’t have the functionality that you need in order to grow your business.

Drupal is great for custom commerce applications that are tied into other things Drupal does well. Subscriptions to Drupal content, membership based sites, non-physical goods. Things like that.If you have a 'regular store' where you sell stuff and ship it out, use something else. That is a problem that has been solved many times and you don't need the hassle of Drupal commerce configuration. You can still use Drupal for the rest of your site and tie it in fairly seamlessly.

Currently working on a new Drupal Commerce project. It's stacking up pretty well so far, a nice reflection of the improvements we've seen thus far.
