I recommend QuickBooks POS. It is designed specifically for retail transactions. It is easy to use, and there is a nationwide availability of independent QuickBooks consultants who can also help you with implementing it. The software is also scalable in that you can run the software by itself, or you can add a receipt printer, cash draw, and bar code reader. It is also great for tracking your inventory, and making inventory or price labels for your products.

My suggestion would be QuickBooks Pro. I use it at home for other reasons, but it will track inventory and sales. It will automatically add in sales tax or not, depending on the defaults you set for each sales item. It makes a nice receipt, which you can customize with your office logo if you wish. And actually, now that you mention it, I may take my copy to the office and initialize it for the same reason you just mentioned.

This past March I switched to QuickBooks POS Pro, and I share the sales data with my accounting PC that runs QuickBooks Pro. I also have a nice barcode printer, and it's a piece of cake to print them through the POS software. I've saved a lot of time and frustration, and my CPA fees have been reduced. QuickBooks POS Pro is highly recommended!
