I've been using it since early on. It went through some growing pains, but it's really solid and useful now. If you're using their ecommerce solution and wanting to add a POS system, this is definitely the way to go.

We run our shop to on it and it works perfectly. The integration with the website is seamless. Payment widget good - only issue is it goes to sleep too quickly. The way gift cards bought via the website can be redeemed in the shop without any friction is a real plus. Zero negatives for us.

Edit to mention that we use it on an ipad with wirelessly connected receipt printer which in turn is wire connected to a cash drawer. The card payment reader is bluetooth connected to the ipad. Just in case we ever lose internet or the ipad dies we’ve tested iphone and android phone and the POS worked perfectly on both. In an emergency, you can take payment via manual entry on the the screen rather than the reader and you can email receipts rather than print them. Apple pay works fine too.

We were one of the first POS users on Shopify. It worked perfectly for us for about 1.5 yrs until we went back to online only.

The biggest benefit for us was keeping online/store inventory straight.

I haven’t used it in a couple of years (sold that business), but it was pretty good back then and always improving. From what I’ve heard it’s still pretty solid.

I've been using shopify POS for my brick and mortar store for about 3 full weeks now. No huge complaints yet. Definitely go with the iPad version and get the hardware on Amazon - it's cheaper. Don't forget the cash drawer cable though. We were previously using a Casio cash register so shopify is a major upgrade in just about every sense.
