New Name:

Lendio, a small business loan marketplace, bought out Billy in July of 2019 and relaunched it as Sunrise, with some changes. Sunrise was the first free bookkeeping software to combine accounting, cash flow management, loans, and credit information onto a single platform. Users of Sunrise also have access to Lendio's marketplace and customer support.

Review:

Sunrise mostly focuses on bookkeeping software for freelancers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses. As they are a Lendio company, they also give users access to lenders for small business loans. They have a simple but solid interface that is easy to navigate and gives users access to all of Sunrise's features for free.

Highlights:

Users can access all of Sunrise's features on the free plan, the pricing only comes in if you want to use their bookkeeping services. These services give users access to a dedicated professional who will assist each company with their bookkeeping needs. Sunrise also allows for customizable invoices, as well as recurring payments on invoices, and automatic categorization, not to mention it supports both quotes (the exact price for the job being offered) and estimates (informal ideas of price based on limited information).

Shortcomings:

Sunrise's mobile app only allows users to take pictures of receipts for expense tracking. This makes it a very limited app when compared to competitors' mobile apps that offer features like accessing accounts, creating invoices, and viewing customer records. Sunrise also lacks some key features, such as time tracking, project management, and third-party integrations.

Reputation:

Sunrise is not accredited or rated by the Better Business Bureau. However, Capterra has collected 153 customer reviews for Sunrise, formally known as Billy, with an average rating of 4.4 out of 5. Sunrise generally has a good reputation on Capterra, with the majority of positive remarks being about the ease of use, strong accounting features, the simple design, and the usefulness of syncing with your bank and organizing your documents.

The cons that customers have mentioned are generally about the lack of language translation options, the need for more payment options, and some lag in key features and minor technical issues.

Sunrise Packages:

The main difference between Sunrise's packages is that the one self-service package is for entrepreneurs and businesses who do all of their own bookkeeping, and the other three packages offer dedicated professional bookkeepers who will handle all of your bookkeeping for you.

The self-service package gives users access to unlimited customized invoices, unlimited bank transactions, cash flow reports, double-entry accounting, credit card processing, and bank transfer acceptance. If users no longer want to handle their own bookkeeping and accounting, they can upgrade to one of Sunrise's paid packages.

On a paid package, you will be assigned a bookkeeper who will reconcile your books each month, provide you with access to your monthly cash flow reports, and answer all of your questions.

Sunrise vs. FreshBooks:

FreshBooks is our top pick for both accounting software and invoice software and includes some features that are lacking in Sunrise, such as time tracking, project management, and team collaboration. Unlike Sunrise, FreshBooks also offers payment processing for more than just credit cards but is a paid software where Sunrise is free.
